FAQs

What are the capsules, and do I need to break them?
The little coloured beads suspended in the gel hold the active blend and release as you scoop and press the cream into your skin. Scoop out as much or as little as you like, and the beads melt in as you apply. They're the fun part and they're doing a job.
How do I use it?
After cleansing and serum, morning and night. Scoop a small amount, press it over the face and let it absorb, which it does in a few seconds without stickiness or residue. For a treatment layer, apply it thicker before bed and leave it on as an overnight mask. If you wear makeup, it works well as a base underneath, and people with oily skin use it exactly that way.
Does it feel sticky?
It can feel slightly tacky for the first few seconds and then settles completely. Give it a moment before your next layer.
How much vitamin C is in it, and what type?
It uses 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid, a stable form of vitamin C that doesn't oxidise the way pure ascorbic acid does, which means no browning and no stinging.
Can I use it with retinol, acids or other vitamin C?
Yes. The stable form of vitamin C used here is gentler than pure ascorbic acid and sits comfortably alongside niacinamide in the same formula. If you use a retinol eye cream or an exfoliating acid, apply those in your routine as normal and use this as the cream step. If your skin is new to actives, start once a day and build up.
Is it a moisturiser or a serum?
Both, which is the point of it. It's a gel cream with serum level actives, light enough for oily and combination skin as a daily moisturiser, and hydrating enough for dry skin. On very dry skin in winter you may want a richer cream over the top, or use this as your morning step and something heavier at night.
Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
It's fragranced and it contains vitamin C and niacinamide, so it's more active than the rest of the range. Most people find it comfortable, including those with dry sensitive skin who use it as a mask to relieve tightness. If your skin reacts easily, patch test first.
Does it contain SPF? Do I need sunscreen?
No SPF. Vitamin C works best alongside daily sun protection, so apply your SPF after it in the morning.
Will it leave a white cast?
No. It contains titanium dioxide and light reflecting pigments for an instant brightening, soft focus finish rather than a visible layer of colour.
Does it actually brighten?
It gives an immediate soft focus glow from the pigments, and the vitamin C and niacinamide work on tone over time with consistent use. Give it a few weeks before judging the longer term effect.

    Having had this in hot toddy in the suitcase and fallen in love I purchased in another scent. Cereal Milk. I’m so pleased did. As with the hot toddy. I have used this as both a moisturiser and I’ve also used is as a thicker layer for a mask. Brilliant on my dry sensitive skin. As a mask it relieved any tightness. There is also no stickiness or residue even when applied thickly. My reason for 4 stars and not 5 is I just wish the bottle was bigger! There is only a small amount of product compared to the size of the jar.

There is also no stickiness or residue even when applied thickly. My reason for 4 stars and not 5 is I just wish the bottle was bigger! There is only a small amount of product compared to the size of the jar. This product smells amazing. Hot toddy is one of my fave scents at the moment. I know it was a Christmas scent but I’ll use it all year round.
